Trademarks: concept and importance. Registration of trademarks at OSIM

Abstract: Trademarks, as they are regulated by Law no. 84/1998, are an important element of a commercial activity. Trademarks are used to distinguish products and/or services of companies from those of competitors and to create a personal image on a certain market, which may be the cornerstone of a marketing strategy. The conditions that need to be observed and the steps that need to be followed are provided by the law. This procedure is carried out by OSIM (State Office for Inventions and Trademarks). The reasons that can lead to a trademark registration refusal require serious attention and must be avoided throughout the registration procedure.
